MANHAT is a community founded in 2002 by the paragliders of Manisa who loves to fly. The aim of Manisa Aviation Community is to make people love flying, and obviously the nature. Manisa Aviation Community has also contributed to city’s tourism by the aviation festivals MANHAT organized.
With the 1st Mesir Aviation Festival which took place in April 20th, 2003, MANHAT made its name known in whole Turkey by means of aviation, namely paragliding. Pilots who attend to the aviation festival that many sponsor companies as well as official associations have supported are satisfied with the festival, stating that Manisa is a suitable place for paragliding by means of geography and weather.
In the end of 2003, Karlık Hill, located 4 km away from the Spil National Park road, is determined to be very suitable for paragliding. With the height of 4000 feet (1300 mt.), test flights from Karlık hill had a good outcome, therefore in the end of 2003, by the applications and talkings of MANHAT, a 2.5 miles (4 km) long gravel road was made Manisa province department and National Parks Directorate of Manisa and Village Services Directorate, providing Manisa a good tourism and sports spot. Karlık Hill is now providing a good oppurtinity for pilots from Manisa and other cities every weekend.
The 2nd Aviation Festival was held in between March 1st and March 2nd in 2004 with the support of Governorship of Manisa, by the organization of Manisa Aviation Community with broad participation. All the guests have the privilege of travelling, eating and staying free of charge. During the festival that lasted 2 days with the participation of about 200 guest pilots, the pilots enjoyed hours of flight, took-off from 4000 ft. high Karlık Hill. Guests shared their opinions about the festival, and their feedbacks agree that Mount Spil is an excellent place for paragling among the best places to fly in the world, not to mention one of the most special paragliding courses in Turkey.
We, as Manisa Aviation Community, would like to thank Governorship of Manisa, National Parks Directorate of Manisa, Village Services Directorate of Manisa, Keskinoğlu Tavukçuluk and other people for their support in our aviation activities and all festival organizations.
